Drink Some Tea
A few days before your period starts, you can start drinking tea at regular intervals. You may continue drinking until the first two days of your menstrual period. To prepare the tea, boil a cup of water with two tablespoon of grated ginger. You can add tea leaves and honey for additional flavor. To relieve the pain and cramping, you can drink the tea every four hours. The ginger can help normalize the menstrual flow.
Dysmenorrhea is sometimes most painful during the first day of you period. An immediate relief would be to prepare and drink an infusion of chamomile leaves. The soothing effect of chamomile helps calm the nerve and ease the contractions of muscles. If chamomile tea is not available, mint and peppermint tea are great alternatives.
Hot Water Bottle
The hot water bottle treatment is one of the best and effective immediate reliefs for dysmenorrhea. Fill a bottle with hot water and wrap it with a cloth or towel and place it on your abdomen or pelvis to ease the pain. If a bottle is not available, you can just use a towel soaked in hot water. Place the towel to your tummy making sure that your skin can tolerate the heat to prevent it from being burned.
Drink Plenty of Water
Dehydration is one of the main causes of severe menstrual cramps. Throughout your menstrual cycle, make sure that you drink plenty of water. On a daily basis, the body needs at least 8-10 glasses of water to be hydrated. It will be better if you can make to 12 glasses of water when you have your period.
During your menstrual cycle, you can relieve dysmenorrhea by adding cinnamon to your diet. You can use cinnamon powder and add to your coffee, tea or dessert. Cinnamon can help ease the discomfort and pain brought about by dysmenorrhea.
Stretch and Breathe
Stretching and abdominal breathing can do wonders to help ease the painful cramps and reduce the stress that you feel during dysmenorrhea.
Aromatherapy is also a good immediate relief for dysmenorrhea. You can use essential oils such as lavender, rosemary, clary sage, and marjoram. A few drops of any of these essential oils massaged on the abdomen can help alleviate the pain and discomfort of dysmenorrhea. However, it is recommended not to use the oils in full strength. The best way is to mix it with lotion.
Using fenugreek seeds is also great for immediate relief for dysmenorrhea. What you do is to take one tablespoon of fenugreek seeds together with a glass of warm water. You do this first thing in the morning a few days before your period and continue until the duration of your menstrual period. The anti-spasmodic substances found in fenugreek seeds are good for relieving the contractions of the muscles in the uterus.

Drinking fennel seeds infusion is also good for treatment of dysmenorrhea. Boil two liters of water with six tablespoon of fennel seeds. Simmer for ten minutes then remove from heat and let it cool. Strain and your fennel seed tea is ready. Start drinking on the first day of your period to ease the pain. The fennel seed can also help normalize the blood flow.
